England - Peak District to Yorkshire Dales

The Toft Gate Lime Kiln wasn't built until the mid 1800s but was in operation for 50 years. It was used to produce quicklime for fertiliser and mortar. The limestone was quarried nearby and the rock broken down to a suitable size by children as well as adults.
